Manchester terror plot: two Iranians charged
Two Iranian nationals have been charged in Britain over an alleged plot to carry out a terror attack on Manchester's Jewish community, police said Friday.
Police said Salam Ahmadyan, 36, of Liverpool, and Rahman Salehi, 34, of Salford, were arrested in Manchester on September 20. They are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Saturday.
Police alleged the men had been in contact with an overseas third party who may be in Iran in relation to the plot. They have not released details of the alleged plan but said it had been disrupted.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Vicki Evans said police did not believe there was any continuing public threat linked to the case, while asking people to remain vigilant.
The charges come nearly a year after two people were killed in an October 2, 2025, knife and gun attack at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in northern Manchester, where worshippers had gathered for Yom Kippur.
Uncertainty notes
Details of the alleged plot have not been released.
Police said the overseas third party may be in Iran, but that location was not confirmed.
