Kyiv Russian strikes kill one, damage medical facilities
A Russian attack on Kyiv late Monday killed one person, wounded eight and damaged medical facilities and a university dormitory, mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
Klitschko said a blast wave shattered windows in an intensive care unit. He said windows were also broken in two wards at another medical facility in the same district, but no patients or medical staff were wounded.
He said a building in a non-residential area was hit and that preliminary reports showed one person was killed near a supermarket. A strike near a dormitory belonging to one of Kyiv's universities shattered windows and wounded a 20-year-old woman, he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russian ballistic missiles hit the grounds of a university in Kyiv and nearby areas, including Kyoto Park, an area near a metro station and residential buildings. He said the missiles struck crowded areas and that there was no military facility nearby.
The strikes came hours before a truce was expected to start in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky after months of reports of severe food, water and medicine shortages. Moscow said Monday it would consider more local truces for humanitarian purposes but would not reduce the overall pace of the war, as the sides prepare to restart stalled talks under US mediation next month.
Uncertainty notes
The fatality near the supermarket was described by Klitschko as based on preliminary reports.
