Kyiv hospital hit by Russian strike, PM says
A Russian strike hit a Kyiv hospital's operating room and wounded one patient, Ukraine's prime minister Sergiy Koretsky said Tuesday.
Koretsky said the strike hit the sixth floor of the Strazhesko Institute of the National Academy of Medical Sciences in Kyiv, where the operating room is located. He said no one was killed and the wounded patient received care.
“Russia has struck a hospital again,” he said on social media, adding that the same institute was hit last year on its fourth floor.
Pictures included in his post showed a medical bed covered in debris, broken tiles across the floor and metal beams protruding from a damaged ceiling.
Koretsky said the institute treats people with heart disease from across Ukraine, including by performing surgeries and helping patients recover after heart attacks.
Kyiv has been targeted in recent months by attacks on energy, logistics and transport infrastructure, as well as bridges, warehouses, supermarkets, schools and residential buildings.
The World Health Organization has registered nearly 3,400 attacks on healthcare in Ukraine since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, including more than 550 since the start of this year.
Uncertainty notes
No further details were provided about the weapon used in the strike.
The source did not provide an independent assessment of the strike beyond Koretsky's statement and images he posted.
