Kimberly Guilfoyle sought $100,000 from donor: WSJ
The Wall Street Journal reported that US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle sought $100,000 from a donor and offered access to top administration officials.
The Journal said Guilfoyle offered to use her sway to help Trump donor Eric Deters on tax and legal issues and asked him to pay a $100,000 American Express bill. According to screenshots posted by the Journal, she made the request in Signal messages in July 2025, days before the confirmation hearing for her ambassadorship.
Deters told the Journal he did not make the payment. He also said his dealings with Guilfoyle began in 2020 but that she never came through on favors promised to him.
A lawyer for Guilfoyle told the Journal that the ambassador disputed the authenticity of the messages. A US Embassy official told the newspaper that Guilfoyle had been fully vetted by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, confirmed by the US Senate and remained committed to representing the American people with dedication and integrity.
Several Democrats have accused Guilfoyle of promoting the commercial interests of a Greek company during official engagements and have called on the US State Department to review her conduct.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio declined to comment on the article on October 8 while in Athens for a strategic dialogue with Greece on regional and energy security.
Uncertainty notes
The authenticity of the messages reported by the Wall Street Journal is disputed by Guilfoyle's lawyer.
The source does not state whether the US State Department has opened a review of Guilfoyle's conduct.
