Javier Milei hopes US midterms strengthen Trump

Argentine President Javier Milei said in Washington on Wednesday, October 14, that he hoped US President Donald Trump would emerge stronger from the November midterm elections.

“It is important, not only for the United States but for the entire West...that President Trump emerge stronger from November’s elections; we cannot give an inch in our reconquest of the hemisphere,” Milei said at a Hispanic Heritage gala where he received an award.

“Winning is just the first step. Now we have a mandate to make the Americas great again,” Milei added.

Milei arrived in the US capital on Wednesday to meet investors and attend the gala. He is scheduled to deliver another speech on Thursday at the US Chamber of Commerce.

Milei is one of Trump’s allies in Latin America. Trump backed the Argentine libertarian a year ago, when Milei’s government faced crucial legislative elections. Trump’s support, together with a currency swap agreement with the Treasury Department, contributed to Milei’s electoral success in those polls.

Latin America and the Caribbean have seen a shift to the right in recent years, which has accelerated since Trump’s return to the White House.
