Indonesia arrests ferry executives after deadly sinking
Indonesian police have arrested three executives of the company that owned and operated the Virgo Transport 8 ferry, which sank in the Java Sea last month, killing more than 80 people.
National police spokesperson Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said Thursday that the three Indonesian suspects are accused of negligence, complicity and aiding and abetting in connection with the ship accident.
The passenger ferry was carrying 213 passengers and 30 crew when it lost contact after leaving Surabaya, Indonesia's second-largest city, on Java island, for Borneo.
Police arrested the ferry's captain last month. Search teams have retrieved 108 survivors, while dozens of people remain officially missing.
