India fireworks workshop blasts kill at least five
At least five people, including three children, were killed Friday when explosions tore through a firecracker workshop in eastern India, police and witnesses said.
The blasts happened in Siwan district of Bihar state. Local media reported that the firecracker manufacturing was taking place in a private house.
Police officer Bharat Soni confirmed the five deaths and said residents feared one or two more people could be buried under the rubble. The factory owner was killed along with four relatives.
Industrial accidents are common in India, where safety standards are often overlooked or poorly enforced.
Uncertainty notes
It was not confirmed whether more people were trapped under the rubble.
The cause of the explosions was not established in the supplied material.
