ICE operation in New York: man shot, media report
A man was shot Thursday during an interaction with federal law enforcement agents in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx, the New York Police Department said.
The NYPD said the shooting happened at about 4:00 p.m. and involved federal law enforcement agents. It said city police were not involved and were not on scene at the time.
US media reported that Immigration and Customs Enforcement was carrying out an operation when the shooting happened. The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said on X that she expects federal authorities to provide “a full and transparent accounting” of the incident.
Murad Awawdeh, president of the New York Immigration Coalition, called for an investigation, the release of body camera footage and accountability for any ICE agents who used excessive force.
Uncertainty notes
The exact circumstances of the shooting are not yet clear.
ICE involvement was reported by US media but was not confirmed in the NYPD statement supplied.
The Department of Homeland Security had not immediately commented.
