Houthi targets: Saudi-led coalition says 136 destroyed
The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen's Houthis said Saturday it destroyed 136 military targets in a large-scale operation against the Iran-backed group.
Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki wrote on X that the coalition was carrying out an operation targeting Houthi personnel and capabilities. In a separate post, he said the coalition had destroyed 136 military targets in areas controlled by the Houthis.
The Houthi-run Almasirah TV channel reported that Saudi missiles targeted areas in the northwestern Yemeni governorate of Saada.
The operation came after fighting between the Houthis and Yemen's internationally recognised government, which Saudi Arabia supports, reignited in July and spilled into the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia said Friday that attacks on Riyadh international airport had killed three people the previous day, when the Houthis claimed hits on the facility. Houthi media reported that two people died in Saudi attacks on the airport in Sanaa, Yemen's Houthi-controlled capital.
The Houthis have seized territory along Yemen's Red Sea coast and have attacked transport hubs, oil facilities and other civilian targets in Saudi Arabia with drones and missiles.
Saudi Arabia and Yemeni government forces have struggled to reverse the Houthi advance despite a counter-offensive aimed at recapturing territory including the area around the Bab al-Mandab strait, which is crucial to global shipping.
