Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores elected mayor in Peru

Businessman Hitler Mussolini Simeon Flores has been elected mayor of Queropalca, a remote district in Peru's central Huanuco region, local election data show.

Peru's National Office of Electoral Processes recorded 229 votes for Flores out of 663 total votes in the October 4 elections. His closest rival, far-right candidate Gaspar Osorio, received 204 votes.

Flores, 45, ran for the left-wing Ahora Nacion party and is due to take office on January 1. Electoral authorities say he previously belonged to Popular Force, the party of Peru's right-wing President Keiko Fujimori, until 2025.

Several candidates named Hitler have won elections in Peru, despite the name's association with Germany's World War II-era Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. In 2021, physician Hitler Saavedra Casternoque was elected to parliament for the centrist Somos Peru party. In 2018, Hitler Alba Sanchez was elected mayor of the Andean district of Yungar after saying during his campaign that he was "the good Hitler."
