Greece-Germany flight false hijack alert scrambles jets

A Corendon Airlines flight from Corfu to Nuremberg inadvertently transmitted a hijacking alert on Tuesday, prompting fighter jets to be scrambled and Nuremberg airport to briefly suspend operations, German police said.

Police said the aircraft could not be reached by radio to clarify the situation, so warnings were activated in several European countries. A Croatian Rafale fighter jet was scrambled to intercept the Boeing passenger jet, and the German military also dispatched warplanes.

German fighter jets escorted the plane to land in Nuremberg. Police inspected the aircraft and found no danger.

In a separate disruption early Tuesday, flights at Nuremberg were briefly affected after pilots reported suspected drone sightings.
