Germany warns against further fuel reserve releases
The German government warned Friday against further destabilising global fuel markets after the United States called on European countries to release more diesel reserves to counter high energy prices.
A German government spokesman called for “coordinated and reciprocal solutions”, saying Berlin wanted to stabilise markets rather than unsettle them further.
The spokesman said Germany was not aware of any new requests from the International Energy Agency for further fuel reserve releases.
Uncertainty notes
The item does not specify which European countries received the US request or whether any have agreed to release additional diesel reserves.
