Germany pursues Russia sanctions despite US diesel deal
Germany said Saturday it will keep pushing for new European Union sanctions against Russia despite Moscow's agreement with Washington to release diesel to global markets to ease a fuel crunch.
“The German government sticks to its measures sanctioning Russia and is working jointly with its European partners on new sanctions,” government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said.
Kornelius said Germany's support for Ukraine “remains unfailing” and added that diplomatic efforts for a peaceful solution continue.
Moscow has faced waves of sanctions from the United States and its partners since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump said after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday that Russia would “immediately” supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to the American and global marketplace. The Kremlin said Russia had reaffirmed its readiness to supply oil and oil products to American and world markets.
