French police arrest 135 at nationwide demonstrations

French police arrested 135 people and seized weapons on Saturday as officers deployed for nationwide demonstrations, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said.

Nunez said the confiscated items included metal balls, lead pellets, fireworks, slingshots, steel balls, improvised weapons, a katana and airsoft weapons.

He said police had orders to prevent renewed street violence and that, so far, there had been "no major incident".
