France PM to meet student leaders after protests
French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu will meet student leaders on Monday after another weekend of protests over high school conditions and the cost of living, his office said Sunday.
National Education Minister Edouard Geffray and Higher Education Minister Philippe Baptiste will join Lecornu for the talks at Matignon, the prime minister's office in Paris.
Geffray and Baptiste are due to hold a news conference on Monday afternoon after the meeting.
High school students in France have campaigned for better school conditions and education reform for more than a month. Parents, students, rights groups and opposition politicians have criticised the police response to demonstrations and school blockades as heavy-handed.
Several teenage protesters have been seriously injured and thousands have been arrested, according to the supplied details.
Uncertainty notes
The supplied details do not say which student leaders will attend or what reforms the government may announce.
