El Nino: UN urges action to protect vulnerable people

The United Nations called Wednesday for urgent action to protect people most exposed to the impacts of an exceptionally strong El Nino weather pattern.

Celeste Saulo, head of the UN's weather and climate agency, said the UN was issuing a joint call for urgent and coordinated anticipatory action.

“We cannot stop El Nino, but we can prevent many of its worst human consequences,” Saulo said.
