DR Congo president associates raided in Belgium, source says
Belgian police raided homes in Brussels and other parts of Belgium this week as part of a money laundering investigation, federal prosecutors confirmed.
A person close to the investigation told AFP on October 17 that the targets were associates of Democratic Republic of the Congo President Felix Tshisekedi. The person did not identify them.
Federal prosecutors opened the inquiry in 2025 after complaints by three Democratic Republic of the Congo activist groups. The groups have alleged fraud in the country's mining sector.
Bernard Maingain, a Belgian lawyer acting for the groups, said last year that the suspicions involved nine members of the "presidential family" who had Belgian nationality.
Uncertainty notes
The identities of the people targeted in the raids were not given.
The allegations remain part of an investigation.
