Bayer to invest $2.2bn in Ohio pharma site
Bayer said it will invest $2.2 billion in a new pharmaceutical site in New Albany, Ohio, as drugmakers face pressure from the Trump administration to expand manufacturing in the United States.
The German group said the site will create about 600 jobs and about 1,500 construction jobs while it is being built. It said the facility will focus on pharmaceuticals for cancer, heart and kidney care.
Bayer said the first part of the site is expected to begin operating in 2031 and the second part in 2034.
The company said the project builds on more than $7 billion in US pharmaceutical research, development and manufacturing investment over the past five years.
US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on some patented pharmaceuticals made abroad and plans levies on generic drug imports from 2028. Companies that commit to building plants in the United States are expected to face lower rates than those relying on imports.
Uncertainty notes
The investment, job and opening-date figures are company statements about a planned project.
