Anthropic IPO filing lifts Asian tech stocks

Anthropic's plan to list its shares helped lift technology stocks in South Korea and Japan on Tuesday, even as broader Asian and European markets were mixed before major earnings and central bank decisions.

The artificial intelligence company reported in its filing that first-half revenue rose about 1,300 percent from a year earlier. It also warned that failures in safeguards or misuse of its models could hurt its business.

Seoul's Kospi briefly rose more than four percent and closed up 3.1 percent, helped by gains in chipmakers SK hynix and Samsung. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 closed 1.7 percent higher, with Tokyo Electron, Advantest and SoftBank among the gainers.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.7 percent and Shanghai's Composite Index dropped 1.3 percent. London, Paris and Frankfurt opened lower.

Investors were also waiting for earnings from Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, SK hynix and Samsung. The US Federal Reserve is expected to announce its rate decision on Wednesday.

Uncertainty notes

The source does not state when Anthropic's shares would list or the size of the planned sale.
