20 die in Nigeria road crash, officials say
A multiple-vehicle crash in northcentral Nigeria killed 20 people and injured five others, the Federal Road Safety Corps said.
The crash happened on Friday afternoon on the Hawan Kibo-Jos road in Plateau state and involved a truck, a car, a bus and a motorcycle, the agency said.
FRSC spokesman Osondu Ohaeri said preliminary findings indicated brake failure and loss of control as the likely causes.
The agency said 25 people were involved in the crash, including 23 males and two females. It said the five injured people were three males and two females, while all 20 people killed were male.
Road crashes are frequent in Nigeria. FRSC statistics cited 10,446 accidents and 5,289 deaths in 2025, while the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics recorded at least 1,347 road crash deaths in the first quarter of 2026.
