Kyiv strikes resume after three-day halt, Ukraine says
Ukraine's emergency service said Russia resumed strikes on the Kyiv area late Monday after a three-day halt in attacks expired, reporting drone attacks on Boryspil and Fastiv districts.
“Russians attacked Boryspil and Fastiv districts with drones,” the State Emergency Service of Ukraine said on Telegram.
Kyiv's city military administration said an air raid alert had been declared in the capital because of the threat of an “enemy” drone attack and urged residents to take shelter.
The Kremlin had said Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the three-day halt to Russian strikes on Kyiv for a weekend visit by envoys of US President Donald Trump to the Russian and Ukrainian capitals. Russia's state news agency TASS confirmed earlier that the pause had expired.
The halt followed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's proposal that Ukraine and Russia stop airstrikes while US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner travelled for talks. Zelensky had said Ukraine would not carry out airstrikes during the period and that Russia should do the same.
Witkoff said there had been progress in discussions with Ukraine and Russia, raising the prospect of reviving three-way peace talks to end the conflict. The Kremlin's announcement had described a halt to Russian strikes on Kyiv, not a broader ceasefire across Ukraine.
