Japanese yen jumps more than 1% against dollar

The Japanese yen rose more than 1% against the dollar on Thursday, strengthening to 158.12 per dollar by around 0700 GMT from 159.91 earlier.

The move extended a rebound after the yen had been above 160 per dollar on Wednesday before a spike that fuelled speculation of intervention in the foreign exchange market.

The gains also followed comments from a top Bank of Japan board member suggesting officials could raise rates by more than the expected 25 basis points at their meeting this month and could announce another increase at the following meeting.
