Volvo Cars names Škoda chief Klaus Zellmer as CEO

Volvo Cars said on Sunday it has appointed Škoda Auto CEO Klaus Zellmer as its new president and chief executive.

Zellmer will succeed current CEO Hakan Samuelsson no later than 1 October 2027, Volvo Cars said in a press release.

Samuelsson, 75, had announced his planned resignation earlier in the week because his contract will end. He led Volvo Cars from 2012 to 2022 and returned to the post in April 2025.

Volvo Cars chairman Eric Li said Zellmer brings automotive expertise and international leadership experience. Zellmer said he was joining the company at an important moment in its development.
