Ukraine aid: Trump says Europe should repay US

US President Donald Trump said on September 3 that he would ask Europeans to repay American aid provided to Ukraine under the administration of his predecessor, Joe Biden.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that “Hundreds of Billions of Dollars” had been given to Ukraine and NATO “free of charge” and said Europe would have paid if asked. He did not specify which countries he believed should pay or how the repayment request would work.

Trump has long called for Europeans to take on more of the cost of Western support for Ukraine in its war with Russia, which began more than four years ago.

In the same post, Trump also rejected reports that the US military was running low on munitions in its war against Iran. He said the United States had “virtually unlimited” amounts of mid- to high-grade ammunition and that production was at levels “never seen before.”

Trump said Washington was building up stockpiles and preparing for contingencies, and had temporarily suspended overseas arms sales. He said sales to allies would “soon again” begin.
