JD Vance to discuss fatherhood, Charlie Kirk in speech
Vice President JD Vance will use his Thursday keynote at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas to talk about fatherhood, his populist vision and Charlie Kirk, AFP reported, citing a person familiar with the address.
Vance is scheduled to speak before President Donald Trump's closing remarks, giving him a prime-time role at the end of a two-day convention built around Trump's appeal to voters in November.
The person familiar with the address said Vance will reprise the mix of personal biography and populist politics from his 2024 Republican convention speech, but shift attention from his upbringing and grandmother to recently becoming a father for the fourth time with Usha Vance and to the country's future. The person said Vance will also reflect on Kirk, the conservative youth movement leader assassinated exactly a year ago and described as Vance's close friend.
Vance, 42, has not confirmed whether he will run for president in 2028. His speaking slot comes as Republicans try to motivate Trump's voters for the midterms, when Trump himself is not on the ballot.
