Venezuela interim president says elections when ready

Venezuela's interim President Delcy Rodriguez said Wednesday that the country would hold elections “when ready,” rejecting calls for a quick vote.

“Have no doubt about it, there will be an electoral process, but when Venezuela is ready,” Rodriguez told reporters after overseeing the signing of multibillion-dollar energy agreements alongside visiting US Energy Secretary Chris Wright.

Her comments followed US President Donald Trump's statement that Venezuela was not ready to hold elections after the US ouster of Nicolas Maduro. Trump said Wednesday that he did not think Venezuela was ready to vote because the situation was “very new.” He said the United States was “getting along great” with the interim administration in Caracas headed by Rodriguez.
