Sudan attack destroys two UN aid trucks, WFP says

The World Food Programme said two trucks carrying UN food aid in Sudan were destroyed in an aerial attack outside Dilling, in South Kordofan state, on Sunday.

The agency said the trucks were carrying 50 metric tonnes of food to Kadugli, where WFP supports nearly 58,000 people facing emergency levels of hunger. It did not identify who was responsible.

WFP said attacks on aid workers and humanitarian operations were unacceptable and must stop.

Sudan's war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces began in April 2023. Aid groups estimate that more than 200,000 people have been killed, and UN figures show around 30 million people need humanitarian assistance.

The United Nations says drone strikes by both sides have intensified in recent months and have killed more than 1,000 civilians. The UN said Sudan was the deadliest place for aid workers after Gaza last year, with 71 humanitarian personnel killed.
