Scott McTominay says he feels fine before heart surgery

Scott McTominay said he was feeling fine after Napoli said he needed surgery for a mild benign heart rhythm issue.

The Scotland international spoke to reporters at a professional footballers gala in Milan on Wednesday, a day after Napoli said he would be out for a few weeks.

Napoli said McTominay would undergo pulsed field ablation surgery in the next few days because of “the onset of a mild benign arrhythmia”. The club said he would be available again after the international break.

McTominay, 29, said the issue had been known about for some time.

He is set to miss Napoli’s match against Inter Milan this weekend and a Champions League game against Arsenal next week. He will also miss Scotland’s Nations League fixtures against Slovenia, Switzerland and North Macedonia.

McTominay joined Napoli from Manchester United in 2024 and has scored 27 goals in 82 matches. He was voted Serie A’s best player during Napoli’s 2024/25 title-winning campaign.
