Saudi strikes hit Mocha airport, Houthi TV says
Saudi Arabia launched two airstrikes on Friday targeting Mocha airport in Yemen, Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV said, after the group seized the Red Sea port city during an offensive around the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
A local government official later told AFP that six missiles targeted Mocha port, but did not say where they came from.
The Houthis seized a key island on Friday and appeared in control of land along the Yemeni side of Bab al-Mandab, a vital route for Saudi oil exports. Hazem al-Assad of the Houthi politburo told Al-Araby al-Jadeed that there was “no cause for international concern” over free navigation through the strait.
The waterway links Asia to Europe through the Red Sea and the Suez Canal. It has gained importance as a transit route since the wider Middle East war, during which Iran blockaded the Strait of Hormuz.
