San Diego mosque attack: teen charged with aiding shooters

A North Carolina grand jury indicted Sarah Santiago, 17, on August 31 on three counts of first-degree murder and one count of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder over the May 18 attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego in California.

Santiago is accused of helping Caleb Vazquez, 18, and Cain Clark, 17, livestream the attack and later spread the recordings online. She is also accused of releasing the attackers' manifesto.

Vazquez and Clark killed three men, including a security guard, before killing themselves.

The indictment said Santiago bought Vazquez a patch featuring a pro-Nazi "Sonnenrad" design, which he wore during the attack. It also said she aided the attackers in planning unrealized attacks on a Jewish temple and on African-American high school students.

Santiago will be charged as an adult, according to a statement from prosecutor James O'Neill's office.
