Russian strike kills two at Ukraine-Moldova border: Kyiv

A Russian drone strike killed two civilians and wounded three at the Starokozache international road checkpoint on Ukraine's border with Moldova overnight, Odesa regional governor Oleg Kiper said Wednesday.

Kiper said the casualties were civilians who were near the checkpoint. The figures were preliminary, he said.

Ukraine's State Border Guard Service said the attack forced the checkpoint to close. The crossing is around 500 kilometres south of Kyiv.

Moldova's foreign ministry said a Moldovan driver was also injured in the attack.

Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan said Russia's war against Ukraine was “increasingly endangering the lives of our citizens as well”. He said 17 drones had hit Moldovan territory in August alone, more than during the whole of last year.

“The attacks have intensified so much,” Tofan said in a video of a cabinet meeting posted on Facebook. “It's becoming the norm, yet at the same time it's clearly an extremely worrying development.”
