Russia takes control of US firm Aptar factory

Russia said on September 21 that it had taken control of a factory owned by US food and health packaging company Aptar.

A Kremlin decree said Aptar Vladimir, a factory in the city of Vladimir about 180 kilometres east of Moscow, had been placed under temporary management by a Russian company that used to belong to France's Danone.

Aptar says on its website that the Vladimir facility produces packaging components for food, beverages and health products.

The move came days after Moscow said it had taken control of Russian assets linked to Switzerland's Nestle and three French groups. Moscow said last week that those companies represented countries it considers unfriendly because they back Ukraine.

Western countries have imposed sanctions on Russia over its military offensive against Ukraine, now in its fifth year. The latest Russian announcement came several days after US lawmakers approved broad new sanctions on Russia.
