Rubik's Cube record set by Lian Yunzhi, 6, CCTV says

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said six-year-old Lian Yunzhi has set a new women's world record for solving a 3x3 Rubik's Cube, averaging just over four seconds.

CCTV said Lian broke the women's 3x3 average world record twice this month at World Cube Association certified competitions in Wuhan and Guangzhou. It reported that she posted averages of 4.52 and 4.27 seconds after solving the cube five times.

The broadcaster said Lian, who is from Chengdu and is nicknamed “Zhizhi”, is the first female speedcuber to average under 4.5 seconds.

CCTV video showed Lian wearing a red gingham bow as she solved a cube, placed it on a table, clapped and raised a fist.

Her mother, Lin Yangxi, told local media that Lian was first introduced to the Rubik's Cube after being enrolled in a class alongside other extracurricular activities. Lin said her daughter has mastered more than 1,300 solving algorithms and practises for two to three hours a day.
