Rihanna mansion shooting suspect fit for trial

A Los Angeles judge has ruled that Ivanna Ortiz, accused of opening fire at Rihanna's Beverly Crest home in March, is mentally competent to stand trial.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi reinstated criminal proceedings on Tuesday and ordered Ortiz to return to court on Wednesday.

Ortiz, 36, is charged with one count of attempted murder involving Rihanna, whose real name is Robyn Fenty, as well as 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. She also faces charges including shooting at an inhabited dwelling and shooting at an inhabited vehicle over the March 8 incident.

Prosecutors have said Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, were in an Airstream trailer on the property when Ortiz allegedly opened fire. Rihanna told police she heard several rounds hit the trailer and saw bullet holes in the windshield directly in front of where she had been standing.

Police said about 20 rounds were fired, hitting the trailer, a patio area, a nursery room wall and a neighboring property.

Ortiz, who is from Florida, has pleaded not guilty to all charges. She remains detained in lieu of $1.875 million bail and could face life imprisonment without parole if convicted.
