Raul Asencio cleared in explicit video case

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio was cleared Thursday by a Spanish court of distributing an explicit video involving a minor, shortly after coach Jose Mourinho said he faced club discipline over a separate drink-driving conviction.

A court in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, declared that no offence had been committed by the 23-year-old after the two complainants withdrew charges. Asencio had previously apologised to them.

Asencio was charged in 2025 alongside three former Real Madrid youth academy teammates over alleged involvement in the recording and unauthorised distribution of sexually explicit videos involving two young women aged 16 and 18. Asencio was not present when the incidents took place and had been charged with sharing the videos with a third party.

The three other players, Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez and Andres Garcia, were found not guilty of distributing intimate footage without consent. They were given one-year suspended prison sentences for child pornography and must attend a sexual re-education course.

The drink-driving incident also took place in Gran Canaria. Asencio was more than three times over the legal limit on August 16. A court in San Bartolome de Tirajana convicted him, fined him 14,400 euros and suspended his driving licence for eight months.

Mourinho praised Asencio's professionalism in training but said the player had let Real Madrid down. “Everything you do outside the pitch represents Real Madrid and could affect the club's prestige,” Mourinho said. “I'm not happy. Everyone makes mistakes but when they pile up, it's not the same.”

Asencio suffered a hamstring injury in July and has not yet been picked for a matchday squad by Mourinho. He played regularly for Real Madrid in the previous two seasons.
