Prince George starts at Eton College

Britain's Prince George started at Eton College on Tuesday, arriving for his first day with his parents, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

The 13-year-old prince, who is second in line to the throne after his father, was welcomed by headmaster Simon Henderson. He will complete his secondary education at the private school, which charges more than £63,000, or $85,000, in annual fees.

UK media reported that George will board at Eton, despite the school being only a few kilometres from the family's home in Windsor, west of London.

George follows his father and uncle Prince Harry, who both attended Eton. The school, founded by King Henry VI in 1440, educates boys aged 13 to 18 and has also educated 20 former British prime ministers, including Boris Johnson and David Cameron.

Tuesday was also the fourth anniversary of the accession of George's grandfather King Charles III, marked with a gun salute in central London.
