Nvidia authorizes record $150bn share buyback
Nvidia said Monday that its board had authorized $150 billion in share buybacks, setting a new record for a company repurchase program.
Combined with earlier authorizations, Nvidia's total buyback program now stands at $235 billion. The chipmaker said it expects to complete the program by the end of its fiscal year 2028 in January.
The new authorization is larger than Apple's previous record of $110 billion, approved in 2024.
A share buyback is when a company uses cash to repurchase its own shares from investors, reducing the number of shares outstanding. Buybacks can support a company's share price.
Nvidia shares rose more than 3 percent at the market open after the announcement.
The company is valued at about $5.6 trillion, making it the world's most valuable company, ahead of Apple at about $4.9 trillion.
