New York Fashion Week opens with full fur ban
New York Fashion Week opened Wednesday with Ralph Lauren's Spring/Summer 2027 collection as the event introduced its first full ban on animal fur on the runway.
Ralph Lauren's show took place on the eve of the fashion week's official launch. The collection used the designer's signature navy blue and white, along with gold, beige and dusty rose.
Oscar-winning actresses Viola Davis and Ariana DeBose and “Wicked” star Cynthia Erivo were among those in the front row.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America, which organises New York Fashion Week, announced in December that it would ban animal fur from its official events beginning this month.
Coach held the only other show on Wednesday. New York Fashion Week was due to move into a fuller schedule on Thursday, with shows including Henry Zankov's first collection as artistic director at Diane von Furstenberg, as well as Proenza Schouler, Christian Siriano, Tory Burch and Tommy Hilfiger.
About 70 collections are expected on New York runways during the week, including Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera and Thom Browne.
