Lufthansa flight diverted after power bank catches fire

A Lufthansa flight from Frankfurt to Lisbon was diverted to Lyon after a passenger's power bank battery caught fire, the airline said.

The incident happened on September 26 on an Airbus A321-200 carrying 198 passengers. Lufthansa said the crew immediately secured the battery in a protective bag designed for lithium batteries and no one was injured.

The pilot diverted to Lyon as a precaution, and the aircraft landed without incident. Passengers resumed the flight on September 27 after staying overnight in a hotel.

Lufthansa said it has banned the use and charging of external batteries on its aircraft since January, although passengers may carry up to two in the cabin under safety conditions.
