Lady Gaga joins FamilyMart recruitment campaign in Japan
Lady Gaga has appeared in a FamilyMart recruitment campaign in Japan as the convenience store chain tries to attract part-time workers amid staffing shortages.
The black-and-white video shows the singer working behind a counter, offering fried chicken to customers and restocking bottled tea. In the video released Friday, she asks in Japanese: “Want to work at FamilyMart?”
A FamilyMart spokesman said Monday that about 30 percent of the chain's more than 16,000 stores in Japan are short-staffed. He said the company hoped using Lady Gaga would help attract and retain recruits as Japanese businesses compete for workers.
FamilyMart has also relaxed some traditional convenience store dress rules this year, including restrictions on some hair dyes and large earrings, in an effort to appeal to workers who want to keep their own style. The company is offering shopping vouchers worth 200 yen, or about $1.30, to people who enquire about jobs or go through interviews.
