Israeli strike wounds four in south Lebanon, army says

An Israeli strike in southern Lebanon wounded a Lebanese soldier and three civilians, Lebanon’s army said on Wednesday.

The army said the soldier was seriously wounded when an army vehicle was targeted in Nabatieh al-Fawqa. Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported that an enemy drone attacked the town.

The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incident.

The strike was reported as implementation of a framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel remains stalled. The agreement, concluded in June under US auspices, provides for Hezbollah’s disarmament, a gradual Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon and Lebanese army deployment in the area, starting in test areas known as “pilot zones”.

Lebanon’s military deployed in two pilot zones in July, but implementation has stalled since then. Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam pushed for further implementation of the agreement during a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Wednesday.

Hezbollah refuses to lay down its weapons, while Israel continues to carry out strikes in Lebanon and occupies land in the south despite the agreement.
