India women refuse Asia Cup trophy from Pakistan official

India's women's cricket team refused to collect the Asia Cup trophy from Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi after winning the T20 final in Dubai on September 13.

India beat Sri Lanka by 72 runs to claim a record-extending eighth continental title. Harmanpreet Kaur's side skipped the trophy presentation, repeating the stance taken by India's men's team last year.

Naqvi heads the Asian Cricket Council and is also Pakistan's interior minister and cricket board chief. He had been due to hand over the trophy.

Indian women's coach Amol Muzumdar said the position had been taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. "We are the champions, that's good enough," he told reporters.

The presentation was delayed by nearly 50 minutes. Naqvi then gave medals to the runners-up before the ceremony ended abruptly. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and vice-president Rajeev Shukla were at the ground as India presented medals to their own players.

Uncertainty notes

It is not stated whether or when India's women's team will collect the trophy.
