Guangzhou knife attack wounds several, police say

A knife attack in Guangzhou wounded several people outside a hot pot restaurant, and police said they arrested a 35-year-old suspect.

Police in the southern Chinese city said they received reports that a man surnamed Li had carried out the attack in Panyu district at 5:20 pm on Monday. Several people sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

The police statement did not give the number of victims or a suspected motive. Authorities said they were investigating.

Footage posted online suggested the attack took place in a shopping centre and showed at least three victims with wounds to their faces. One video apparently from CCTV showed a masked man stabbing a woman in the face as he walked past her in front of a restaurant. Another video showed police rushing into a shopping centre and pedestrians fleeing.
