Graeme Dott jailed for seven years for child sex abuse

Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott was sentenced to seven years in prison by a court in Scotland on Tuesday after being found guilty of sexually abusing two children.

Dott, 49, was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh. Judge Sean Smith told him he had “robbed the complainers of a significant part of their childhood.”

A jury found Dott guilty in August of subjecting a girl and a boy to multiple incidents of abuse between 1993 and 2010, when they were pre-teens. A five-day trial heard that he exposed himself in front of both children, touched them inappropriately and kissed them.

Dott denied the charges. He was convicted of two counts of lewd, indecent and libidinous behaviour.

Police Scotland called Dott a “dangerous individual” after the trial. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association permanently revoked his membership after his conviction.

Dott won the 2006 World Snooker Championship and was runner-up in 2004 and 2010.
