Google Finland AI plan draws Trump criticism

US President Donald Trump urged Google on Monday to rethink plans for a major artificial intelligence-related investment in Finland, saying he was “not happy” with the move.

Trump wrote on social media that Google wanted to build a “massive Plant in Finland” because it was finding permitting too difficult in the United States. “I am not happy about this, and want them to change their thinking,” he said.

Google announced last week that it would invest at least $15 billion in data centers and other digital infrastructure in Finland to support its AI ambitions. The company described it as its biggest single investment in Europe.

Trump made the comments as he pushed back against calls for greater regulation of artificial intelligence in the United States.
