Gaza officials say Israeli fire killed 4, including child

Gaza health officials said Saturday that Israeli fire killed at least four people in Gaza, including a 10-year-old girl and the son of a senior health official.

Gaza's health ministry, which operates under Hamas authority, said the girl died from wounds sustained that morning from Israeli army fire north of Nuseirat camp in central Gaza. The ministry said an airstrike killed Baseer al-Barsh, son of ministry director-general Munir al-Barsh, in an encampment for displaced people in Jabalia in northern Gaza.

Speaking at his son's funeral, Munir al-Barsh called the killing “a continuation of Israel's crimes,” according to a ministry statement.

Gaza's al-Shifa hospital and the territory's civil defence agency, which also operates under Hamas authority, said two Palestinians were killed and several others injured in two separate strikes near Gaza City. The Israeli military did not immediately respond to AFP's request for comment.

Israel agreed in October 2025 to a US-brokered ceasefire, but has since advanced further into Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to keep striking Hamas and not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas gives up all its weapons.

The Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attack on Israel killed 1,221 people, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli figures, and militants took 251 hostages into Gaza, 44 of them already dead. Israel's offensive in response has left most of Gaza in ruins and killed more than 73,800 people, according to Gaza's health ministry, whose figures are considered reliable by the United Nations.

Gaza's health ministry says Israeli strikes have killed more than 1,300 people since the ceasefire was announced. The Israeli army has identified five deaths in its ranks over the same period, as well as the death of one civilian contractor.
