Gaza deal: Trump says Israel 'very happy'

US President Donald Trump said Friday that Israel was “very happy” about a Gaza deal under which Hamas would hand over its weapons and Israeli forces would gradually withdraw from the territory.

“We do have an understanding with Israel. Israel's very happy about it. Israel helped us and they've been very good about it,” Trump told journalists at the Camp David presidential retreat.

The Board of Peace published a 15-point roadmap for implementing Trump's Gaza ceasefire plan, setting out steps for Hamas's disarmament, a phased Israeli withdrawal and a new Palestinian-run administration in Gaza. Hamas said Friday that it had agreed to the deal.

Under the roadmap, Israel, Hamas and Palestinian factions would cease military operations. A timetable and mechanisms would be prepared within 14 days after all parties approve the plan, with a possible extension.

The plan says each phase would depend on verified completion of the previous one, overseen by a new International Verification Committee. It calls for a gradual, time-bound process to decommission and store Hamas heavy weapons, weapons production sites, depots and tunnels under the Palestinian committee, linked to Israeli withdrawal and the disarming of militias. It says no weapons would be handed to Israel or other non-Palestinian parties.

A temporary International Stabilization Force would deploy to separate Israeli forces from areas controlled by the Palestinian committee, monitor ceasefire compliance, help train Palestinian police, protect aid delivery and support the committee. The force would not carry out policing in Palestinian society.
