French fishermen's bodies found after Channel sinking
The bodies of two French fishermen missing since their trawler sank in the Channel have been found, prosecutors said Saturday.
The Maranello trawler sent a distress call on August 29 off the coast of the English port of Plymouth, reporting problems with its fishing gear. A nearby trawler rescued three of the five crew members before the Maranello sank, according to authorities.
The wreck was found midweek, but the two fishermen remained missing. Alex Dehays, deputy public prosecutor in Saint-Brieuc, said weather conditions allowed the search to resume Saturday and divers found and brought up the bodies of the missing men.
Uncertainty notes
The source of the fishing gear problems and the cause of the sinking have not been established in the supplied information.
