EasyJet Portugal crew plan October, December strikes

EasyJet cabin crew in Portugal have been called to two five-day strikes in October and December to seek higher wages, their union said Thursday.

The National Union of Civil Aviation Flight Personnel said the first strike would run from October 2 to 6 and the second from December 19 to 23, just before Christmas.

The union said EasyJet staff in Portugal receive lower pay than other airline workers in Portugal and lower pay than EasyJet staff in other countries in the airline’s network.

EasyJet said it was “extremely disappointed” by the strike decision and said its cabin crew members receive pay significantly higher than the Portuguese national average.

A union source cited by Portugal’s Lusa news agency said the October strike could disrupt about 500 flights from Lisbon, Porto and Faro, with the December walkout’s impact likely to be greater. EasyJet said it would do everything it could to minimise disruption if strike action was confirmed.
