DR Congo air crash kills 17, ministry says

Seventeen people were killed when a small plane carrying military justice officials crashed near Kenge in southwest Democratic Republic of Congo, the transport ministry said.

The ministry said the Let 410 UVP light aircraft, operated by Tracep Congo Aviation, crashed at about 1300 GMT on September 25 in Kwango province, more than 200 kilometres east of Kinshasa. It said 13 passengers and four crew members died.

The victims included Joseph Mutombo, head of the military high court, and Lucien-Rene Likulia, the armed forces' auditor general. Both held the rank of lieutenant general.

Likulia prosecuted former president Joseph Kabila at a September 2025 trial held in Kabila's absence, where Kabila was convicted and sentenced to death for treason and war crimes.

President Felix Tshisekedi has ordered an investigation into the crash.
